The short version

We do not guarantee a result. No mark, no grade, no rank, no time-to-mastery, and no examination outcome. A book cannot promise those and a publisher that does is telling you something it cannot know.

The two letters are letters of appreciation. Not accreditation, not approval of any book as a prescribed text, not current or ongoing. Both are published in full with their dates so you can read them yourself.

What we claim, and what we do not

Printed side by side, because a claim without its limit is how a misleading advertisement gets made by accident. Section 2(28) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 defines a misleading advertisement as one that gives a false description, a false guarantee, or is likely to mislead about the nature or quality of goods, and s. 89 makes publishing one punishable. This table is the whole of what this site asserts.

Every claim this website makes about the method and the book, paired with what it is not a claim about.
What we say What that is not
The book teaches chemical notation as a language — the tokens, the valencies, the radicals, and how a formula is built from them.It is not a complete chemistry course, a textbook for any board, or a substitute for the syllabus your school follows.
It has been used in Indian classrooms since 1996, and the method has not changed.Longevity is not evidence of a result for any particular student, and we do not present it as one.

Our syllabus pages map the book onto what ICSE, CBSE and the Kerala SSLC syllabus ask for.A board can revise a syllabus without telling a publisher. Check the current syllabus your school is following; ours is a mapping, not an authority.
The mastery gate described on this site is the standard the book sets for itself.It is a standard for working through the book. It is not a pass mark, not a prediction of an examination result, and not comparable to any board’s grading.
Every teacher’s comment quoted on this site is attributed, dated and unpaid.A quotation is one person’s experience. It is not a claim that any other student will have the same one.

The two letters, in exact terms

Two letters of appreciation for the method exist and are published in full on the about page:

What they are: letters, written on the dates shown, expressing appreciation for the method.

What they are not: accreditation; recognition; affiliation; approval or prescription of any book as a text; a licence to display a board’s name, seal, emblem or logo; a statement about any edition published after their dates; or anything current or ongoing. No representative, stockist, distributor or agent of Playway Books is authorised to describe them as any of those, and if you have been told otherwise by someone selling this book, tell us — that is a misrepresentation and we will stop it.

The same goes for board names generally. ICSE, CISCE, CBSE, NCERT and the Kerala SSLC are named on this site to say which syllabus a mapping refers to. Their names and marks belong to them, we claim no association with any of them, and none of them endorses this book.

One phrase that promises ease, and why it is there

Chemistry — The Mystery! Made Easy™ appears in the preface of the book, in the footer of this site and under the display line on the home page. Read as a sales line it promises exactly the ease the rest of this site refuses to promise, so it is worth saying plainly what it is: a trade mark, with an application pending, being used as a mark in the course of trade. It is not a claim about how the method performs, and a mark has to be used to be maintained.

The honest description sits directly beneath it wherever it appears, and stays there. It carries ™ rather than ® because the application is pending — see trade marks and brand use.

No professional advice

Everything on this site is general information about a book and a method of teaching. It is not educational, pedagogical, medical, safety, financial or legal advice, and it is not tailored to any student, class or school. Reading it creates no professional or advisory relationship. The pages describing Indian statutes — including the legal register — are a description of a framework so that a reader can look it up, and they are not legal advice for you or for us.

Chemistry, and doing it safely

This book teaches notation: how a formula is written, and why. It is not a practical manual and contains no laboratory procedure. Nothing on this site or in the book should be taken as instructions for handling any chemical substance. Practical work belongs in a school laboratory, under a teacher, under whatever safety rules that school and that board apply.

Accuracy, and the notation itself

Formulas, equations, valencies and radicals on this site are rendered through one parser so that a subscript is a real subscript and every formula carries a spoken name for a screen reader. We check them, and they are still capable of being wrong. If you find an error — in a formula, an equation, a syllabus mapping or anything else — write to learn@playwaybooks.com and it will be corrected rather than defended. Where a fact on this site has not been verified, the site says so instead of estimating.

Prices, editions and availability

Prices, print runs, editions and stock change. Nothing on this site is an offer capable of acceptance. A price becomes binding only in a written quotation from the office; a retailer’s price and availability are the retailer’s own, shown on their page, and their page is authoritative — which is why every Buy control here opens the retailer rather than pretending to be a checkout.

Other people’s websites

This site links out to retailers, stockists, social platforms and, behind a button, a map. Those are other people’s services under their own terms and their own privacy policies. A link is not an endorsement or a warranty, and Playway Books Pvt Ltd accepts no liability for what is on the other side of one, or for anything you buy through it. Access to a third-party site is at your own risk.

Availability of this site

This site is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, timely, secure or error-free. Clauses 11 and 12 of the terms of use set out the full disclaimer of warranties and the limitation of liability, including the parts of both that Indian law does not permit us to exclude — and we do not try to exclude those.

Your rights are not affected

Nothing on this page takes away any right you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 or the Sale of Goods Act, 1930 in respect of a book you actually bought. Those rights cannot be contracted away, and this page is not an attempt to. If a book you bought from us is defective, misdescribed or not what you ordered, that is our problem to fix — see refunds and returns.

Governing law

This page is governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Ernakulam, Kerala have jurisdiction — without prejudice to your right as a consumer to complain to a Consumer Commission where you live or work.

The Consumer Protection Act, 2019
ss. 2(11), 2(28), 2(47), 34, 35, 74, 84, 89 		Deficiency in service, unfair trade practice and misleading advertisement. A complaint goes to the District Commission where the consideration does not exceed fifty lakh rupees, the State Commission up to two crore, and the National Commission above that; a complaint may be filed where the complainant lives or works, and online through the e-Daakhil portal. Section 89 makes a false or misleading advertisement punishable. Nothing on this site claims a result it cannot document, and that is why.
The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 These bind the e-commerce entity — Amazon, Flipkart or JioMart — in respect of a copy bought there, including its duty to display seller details, a returns policy and a grievance officer. They reach Playway Books as a seller on those platforms in respect of what is said about the book and the accuracy of its listing.
The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021, and the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements, 2022 The 2022 Guidelines govern testimonials, endorsements and “free” claims, and require an endorsement to reflect genuine, current opinion and any material connection to be disclosed. Every quotation from a teacher on this site is attributed, dated and unpaid, and the two letters of appreciation are published with their dates and described as appreciations rather than approval.

If we have overstated something, tell us and we will correct it.

That is not a formula. A claim we cannot document is a claim this site should not be making, and the fastest way to find one is for a reader to point at it.
