Refunds, returns and cancellation

Version 2.7, in effect from 5 September 2026, and it supersedes every earlier version of this page. Playway Books may revise this text; the version and date above change when it does, and continued use of this website after that is acceptance of the revision. If you need the text as it stood on a particular date — because you are relying on it — write and ask, and it will be sent to you.

Which orders this covers

This site has no cart and takes no payment. A copy bought from Amazon, Flipkart, JioMart or a stockist is refunded and returned under that seller’s own policy, which is usually more generous than this one and which the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 require them to publish.

This policy applies to an order placed directly with Playway Books Pvt Ltd.

How a direct order is quoted, invoiced and paid — and why this site will never ask you for a card number — is set out on payments.

This page was drafted for this website and this company on 2 September 2026. It states the law as we understand it and describes what we actually do, but it has not yet been settled by a lawyer, and it is not legal advice. If anything here is wrong, tell us at learn@playwaybooks.com and it will be corrected rather than defended.

Playway Books Pvt Ltd is committed to making sure you are satisfied with your order. Below is how cancellations, returns and refunds work — and, underneath them, the rights you have whatever this page says.

Cancellation

You may cancel an order within 24 hours of placing it and receive a full refund, provided it has not already been dispatched. To cancel, email learn@playwaybooks.com with your order details, or ring — a telephone cancellation is effective, and we will confirm it in writing.

After 24 hours, or once the consignment has been handed to a carrier, ring us anyway. If it has not left the building we will stop it; if it has, it becomes a return.

We may cancel too, and if we do you lose nothing. If a title is out of print, a price on a quotation was wrong, or we cannot deliver on the date we gave you, we will tell you, and you may take a revised offer or a full refund. A refund in that case is made in full, including any shipping you had paid.

When a return is accepted

Books bought directly from Playway Books Pvt Ltd can be returned in three cases:

  • · You received a book you did not order.
  • · The book arrived damaged.
  • · The book was delivered more than 30 days after the order date.

Those three are our policy. They sit on top of your statutory rights, which are wider and which this page cannot narrow — see below.

How to return it

  • · Tell us within 48 hours of receiving the book, by emailing learn@playwaybooks.com. Send the invoice number and, for damage, a photograph — including one of the carton if you still have it.
  • · We will confirm the return and tell you where to send it. Please do not send anything back before that; an unannounced parcel is a parcel nobody can match to an order.
  • · The returned item must reach us within 10 days of delivery, securely packed and in the same condition it arrived in.
  • · An item damaged in transit back to us because it was packed poorly is not eligible for a refund. Use the carton it came in where you can.

Refunds

  • · An order cancelled before dispatch and within 24 hours of being placed is refunded in full.
  • · Once a return is validated, the refund is made within 7 to 10 business days, by the same route the payment came in by. A bank transfer is refunded to the account it came from; there is no card or UPI route here, because this site cannot take one.
  • · A return caused by our error — the wrong book, a damaged book, or a late delivery — is refunded in full, including what you paid for shipping, and we bear the cost of getting it back.
  • · Where the return is not caused by our error, shipping and return postage are not refundable.
  • · Where the order was invoiced under GST, a credit note is raised against it under s. 34 of the CGST Act, 2017, so that your accounts and ours agree.

The awkward one: a consumable book that has been used

The Playbook is consumable. Tokens are punched out of it, exercises are written into it, and the evaluation chart is filled in. Once that has happened the copy cannot be resold, so a change of mind after a book has been used is not something we can refund — and pretending otherwise would be a promise we could not keep.

That is not a defence to a real defect. If the book is misprinted, missing pages, missing or already-punched token sheets, misbound, or not what was described, it is defective, and the fact that a student has opened it changes nothing. Tell us and we will replace it. A defect does not become your problem because you found it on page forty.

For a school ordering in bulk, open one carton and check a copy before the set is handed out. A print fault affects a whole run, and a single copy checked on the day the delivery arrives is how we catch it while every copy is still returnable.

Your rights underneath this policy

A returns policy is a promise on top of the law, never a substitute for it, and a policy written as though it were the whole of your rights would itself be an unfair trade practice under s. 2(47) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. So, plainly:

  • · Sections 14 to 17 of the Sale of Goods Act, 1930 imply conditions that the goods match their description, are of merchantable quality, and are fit for a purpose you made known to us. None of those can be contracted away by a policy page.
  • · The Consumer Protection Act, 2019 gives you a remedy for a defect in goods or a deficiency in service, including replacement, refund and compensation, and lets you take it to a Consumer Commission where you live or work rather than where we are.
  • · Neither the 24-hour cancellation window nor the 48-hour notification window limits those rights. They are our own service commitments, and they exist to make the ordinary case fast, not to shorten a statutory remedy. A latent defect you could not reasonably have found in 48 hours is still a defect.

If we and you disagree about whether something is a defect, the grievance page sets out how to escalate — including the routes that do not run through us: e-Daakhil, the District Commission, and the National Consumer Helpline on 1915.

Sample copies, and what happens to them

A sample copy sent free to a school that asked for one is a gift, not a sale. There is nothing to refund and nothing to return, and nobody will invoice you for it later. Keep it, use it, and if it settles the question either way, tell us which.

Governing law

This policy is governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Ernakulam, Kerala have jurisdiction, subject to clause 15 of the terms of use — and without prejudice to your right as a consumer to complain to a Consumer Commission. By placing a direct order you agree to this policy, and nothing in that agreement removes a right the law gives you.

The law behind a return

A description of the framework, not legal advice.

Consumer protection and advertising — What may be said about the book, and what a buyer may do about it.
Act, rules or instrument What it governs here
The Consumer Protection Act, 2019
ss. 2(11), 2(28), 2(47), 34, 35, 74, 84, 89
Deficiency in service, unfair trade practice and misleading advertisement. A complaint goes to the District Commission where the consideration does not exceed fifty lakh rupees, the State Commission up to two crore, and the National Commission above that; a complaint may be filed where the complainant lives or works, and online through the e-Daakhil portal. Section 89 makes a false or misleading advertisement punishable. Nothing on this site claims a result it cannot document, and that is why.
The Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 These bind the e-commerce entity — Amazon, Flipkart or JioMart — in respect of a copy bought there, including its duty to display seller details, a returns policy and a grievance officer. They reach Playway Books as a seller on those platforms in respect of what is said about the book and the accuracy of its listing.
The Consumer Protection (Direct Selling) Rules, 2021, and the Guidelines for Prevention of Misleading Advertisements and Endorsements, 2022 The 2022 Guidelines govern testimonials, endorsements and “free” claims, and require an endorsement to reflect genuine, current opinion and any material connection to be disclosed. Every quotation from a teacher on this site is attributed, dated and unpaid, and the two letters are published with their dates and described as what each is — an appreciation from CISCE, comments from NCERT — rather than as approval.

A wrong or damaged book is our problem, not yours.

Ring the Ernakulam office with the invoice number. Most of these are settled in one call and a replacement goes out the same week.
