Grievance redressal

Version 2.0, in effect from 2 September 2026, and it supersedes every earlier version of this page. Playway Books may revise this text; the version and date above change when it does, and continued use of this website after that is acceptance of the revision. If you need the text as it stood on a particular date — because you are relying on it — write and ask, and it will be sent to you.

One address, and a person reads it

Every complaint about Playway Books Pvt Ltd — an order, a refund, your data, an accessibility barrier, a copy of our book you have found somewhere it should not be — goes to learn@playwaybooks.com or to +91 484 2405580.

Acknowledged within 48 hours. Answered within 30 days. If something needs longer, you will be told why and when — you will not be left waiting without an answer.

Write in English or Malayalam. There is no form, no ticket number and no portal to register for. If it is easier to ring, ring.

This page was drafted for this website and this company on 2 September 2026. It states the law as we understand it and describes what we actually do, but it has not yet been settled by a lawyer, and it is not legal advice. If anything here is wrong, tell us at learn@playwaybooks.com and it will be corrected rather than defended.

The Grievance Officer

Published as rule 5(9) of the IT (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011 requires, and as s. 8(9) of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 will require from 13 May 2027. The same desk answers both, and it answers a consumer complaint too.

Every complaint is acknowledged within 48 hours and answered within 30 days. Write in English or Malayalam. If a complaint needs longer than that, you will be told why and when to expect an answer, rather than hearing nothing.

What to include, by kind of complaint

None of this is a condition of being heard — send what you have and we will ask for the rest. It is here because a complaint that arrives complete is usually a complaint that gets answered once rather than three times.

What to send with each kind of complaint, and the time we answer it in.
If it is about Send us You will hear back
An order, a delivery or a refundThe invoice or quotation number, the school or buyer name, what arrived and what should have. A photograph if something is damaged.Acknowledged within 48 hours. Resolved within 30 days, and usually within a week.
A data request — access, correction, erasure or withdrawal of consentWhich right you are exercising, and enough about the enquiry for us to find it: the school name, the email address you used, roughly when.Acknowledged within 48 hours. Answered within 30 days.
A copyright infringement, a counterfeit copy, or misuse of our marksThe URL, listing, group or shop; the date you saw it; a screenshot if you have one; and what made you think it was not genuine.Acknowledged within 48 hours. Action started the same week.
A claim that we have infringed your rightsWhat we published, where, what right of yours it infringes, and the registration number if there is one.Acknowledged within 48 hours. Taken down while we look, if the claim is arguable.
An accessibility barrierThe page, what you were trying to do, the browser or assistive technology you were using, and what happened instead.Acknowledged within 48 hours. If we cannot fix it quickly, we will tell you what we are doing instead so you are not left waiting.
Something a person selling this book told youWho, when, where, and what they said — particularly if you were told the book is accredited, approved or prescribed by a board.Acknowledged within 48 hours. We will correct it with them directly.

How we handle it

  • · It is acknowledged within 48 hours, by a person, with the name of whoever is dealing with it.
  • · It is answered within 30 days — the outer limit the SPDI Rules, 2011 set, not our target.
  • · If we got it wrong, we say so, fix it, and tell you what we changed so it does not happen to the next person.
  • · If we cannot do what you asked, we say why, in plain words, and tell you where to go next.
  • · Nobody is penalised for complaining. A school that complains gets the same pricing and the same service afterwards.

If we do not resolve it

These routes exist whatever we say, and we would rather you knew about them than discovered them late. Nothing in our terms of use takes any of them away, and nothing in them requires you to come to us first — although for a data complaint, s. 13(3) of the DPDP Act, 2023 does.

If you are a consumer

Complain to a Consumer Commission under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. The District Commission hears complaints where the consideration paid does not exceed fifty lakh rupees, the State Commission up to two crore, and the National Commission above that. You may file where you live or work, not only where we are, and you may file online through the Government’s e-Daakhil portal without a lawyer.

The National Consumer Helpline is 1915, and the Department of Consumer Affairs runs the INGRAM portal for a complaint you would rather register centrally first.

If it is about your personal data

Complain to the Data Protection Board of India under s. 13 of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Section 13(3) requires you to have exhausted our grievance route first, which is why the address above matters and why we date every acknowledgement. Until the DPDP obligations commence on 13 May 2027, a complaint under s. 43A or s. 72A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 goes to the Adjudicating Officer appointed under s. 46 of that Act for the State.

If it is a cyber security incident

Report it to CERT-In, which the Directions of 28 April 2022 require to be told within six hours of an incident being noticed. We will report it ourselves as well. For online fraud or a financial crime, the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and the helpline 1930 are the routes, and reporting quickly is what makes a transaction recoverable.

If it is a dispute about a contract

The courts at Ernakulam, Kerala have jurisdiction under the laws of India. A commercial dispute above the specified value goes to the Commercial Court under the Commercial Courts Act, 2015, and s. 12A of that Act requires pre-institution mediation unless urgent interim relief is sought. Clause 15 of the terms of use sets out the arbitration option, which applies to commercial disputes only and never to a consumer.

If you bought the book from a marketplace

A copy bought on Amazon, Flipkart or JioMart is sold by that platform or by a seller on it, and the Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020 require each of them to publish its own grievance officer and to answer within stated times. Their returns policy is usually more generous than ours, so start there — and if the copy turns out to be counterfeit, tell us as well, because that is ours to stop.

Things this address is not for

Not to turn you away, but so that the right thing happens quickly. All of these still reach a person; they just reach a different one.

  • · Ordering a book, or asking for a sample copy. Use For Schools or ring the office — it is faster.
  • · A question about a chemistry exercise. Write to learn@playwaybooks.com; someone who knows the book will answer.
  • · A job application. Careers says where to send it.
  • · A security weakness in this website. Same address, but say so in the subject line and read clause 6 of the terms first — responsible disclosure is welcome and will never be met with a legal threat.

Records of complaints

We keep a record of every complaint and what was done about it, for as long as the underlying record is kept under the retention schedule in the privacy policy. You may ask for a copy of your own at any time.

A person in Ernakulam answers the phone on weekdays.

That is not a call centre and there is no queue. If writing is not working, ring — most complaints turn out to be one question away from being fixed.
