A Kerala SSLC student meets around 50 chemical formulas and 50 chemical equations between Class 8 and Class 10. Balancing is explained first, in Class 8, before a chemical formula or a chemical equation has been explained at all; writing a formula follows in Class 9.

When does the Kerala syllabus teach a student to write a chemical formula?
Class 9. Balancing chemical equations is explained a year earlier, in Class 8, Part I, Chapter IV.
Why is the Class 8 ordering a problem?
Balancing an equation requires being able to write a chemical formula and a chemical equation first. Both are explained after it.
